A Hydrocyclone separates sand and other solid matter from water with very little head loss and 90% or better efficiency. There is no head loss build up and no clogging when the solids are separated. Hydrocyclones are easy to operate and
velocity resulting in improved efficiency. The CSS reduces short circuiting from the inlet to the overflow. The less dense separated fraction exits the hydrocyclone at the overflow. This light fraction is made up of either water or crude in desanders, an oil/water mixture in deoilers, or predominately dehydrated crude in dewaterers.
It is a high efficiency separation device and can be used to effectively remove solids at high temperatures and pressures. It is economical because it has no moving parts and requires little maintenance. The separation efficiency for solids is a strong function of the particle size and temperature.
