Human Insulin and Insulin Analogs are available for insulin replacement therapy. Insulins also are classified by the timing of their action in your body specifically, how quickly they start to act, when they have a maximal effect and how long they act.Insulin analogs have been developed because human insulins have limitations when injected under the skin.
Types: insulin aspart Insulin glulisine , and insulin lispro Regular or short acting insulin usually reaches the bloodstream within 30 minutes after injection, peaks anywhere from two to three hours after injection, and is effective for approximately three to six hours.
The ADA lists five types of supplemental insulin: rapid acting, short acting , intermediate acting, long acting, and ultra long acting. 7 Rapid and Short acting Insulins Both types are used to replace the natural bolus insulin produced by the pancreas.

Short acting insulin is also available in U 500. This is five times more concentrated than U 100 regular insulin. Long acting insulin is also available in U 300. This is three times more concentrated than U 100 long acting insulin.
