Through this flotation process, the concentrate and tailings can be well separated. The main gold recovery chemicals to be added during the gold flotation process are: flotation collectors, flotation foaming agents and flotation conditioners. How to select the proper type of flotation collectors for gold recovery varies from the nature of the ore. In the flotation process of sulfide ore, xanthate, xanthate derivatives, aerofloat, benzoxazole thiol are commonly used collectors for gold recovery.
A gold carbonaceous sulphide ore from California carrying free gold yielded a 93 per cent recovery into a concentrate at 14.4:1 to ratio of concentration after conditioning with 0.50 lb. per ton of reagent 645. In each case the ore was ground to about 70 per cent minus 200 mesh and conditioned at 22 per cent solids with the reagents as indicated.
2 17. Flotation of Gold Ores. also for beneficiation and separation of difficult to treat gold ores. Flotation is also the best method for recovery of gold from base metal ores and gold containing PGM ores. Excluding gravity preconcentration, flotation remains the most cost effective bene ficiation method.
Flotation test work on high throughput Ore B indicated that gold can also be concentrated to an extent by concentrating the sulphide component in the ore to mass pulls of 15 to 30 wt%, with gold recovery of 60 to 70%.
Early work on gold particles with copper sulfate showed no improvement in recovery but an increased rate of flotation of gold . More recent laboratory testsing on a refractory gold ore has shown, however, that a 5% increase in free gold flotation recovery is achievable when adding copper sulfate .
Recovering Gold through the Froth Flotation Process Driven by golds inherent value and relative rarity, mining technology has continuously evolved to use ore more efficiently and extract every molecule of gold possible. One of the earliest methods for extracting gold, salt cementation, was perfected by the Lydian Empire during the Iron Age.
Gold does float readily, however, and the free gold can be selectively floated away from an ore containing sulphides. This may be an alternative treatment route for gold room applications where fine gold losses can occur when treating gravity concentrates with pyrite and copper sulphides present. Floating gold from the sulphides could produce a directly smeltable product.

Even when the recovery of the gold and silver values from such ores by flotation is low, it may still be advantageous to float off the minerals which interfere with cyanidation, roasting and cyaniding, or possibly smelting, the concentrate for the extraction of its precious metal content; this is followed by cyanidation of the flotation tailing, which operation will then be simpler and cheaper because of the previous removal of the cyanicides.
