Generally, flotation is a three phase process, which uses a medium of water to separate various particles by the addition of air bubbles .

Almost all native gold particles were locked in pyrite. Applying semi batch flotation, overall gold recovery was above 96%. The experimental data collected under various flotation operating conditions suggest a flowsheet that incorporates bulk sulphide flotation followed by oxidation leaching of the flotation concentrates.

Process Introduction. The flotation method is a widely used technique for the recovery of gold from gold containing copper ores, base metal ores, copper nickel ores, platinum group ores and many other ores where other processes are not applicable. Flotation is also used for the removal of interfering impurities before hydrometallurgical treatment, for the upgrading of low sulfide and refractory ores for further treatment.
For a testwork laboratory treating a wide variety of ores, the most useful laboratory flotation machine is probably one with cells of 500, 1000 and 2000g capacities, with a different diameter impeller for each cell, with stainless steel or rubber covered impellers, glass or plastic cell bodies, and requiring an outside source of low pressure air.
The machine vision system developed was tested on a platinum concentrator plant, and is able to identify and characterise variations in ﬂotation froth appearance, which occur in response to changes in process inputs.

The contents of the cone are then removed through a plug valve. Some 400 lb. of rich material is obtained in this way every day from the five cells, bringing the recovery of gold and silver in the grinding circuit up to 75%. This installation was one of the first large plants to prove the value of flotation in the treatment of gold ores.
